Our Achievements

Since becoming an independent hospital in 1998, The University of Kansas Health System has become one of the top hospitals in the country, and our accomplishments speak to how far we've come. Today, we have earned a reputation as the region's premier academic medical center, offering a full range of services. Our patient-focused business model is the reason we save more lives and offer better care.

The recognition we receive demonstrates our commitment to world-class patient care and our vision to lead the nation in caring, healing, teaching and discovering. To earn this recognition, our physicians, nurses and staff must meet or exceed national standards of excellence in areas such as safety, quality and ethics.

  • As a Magnet®-designated hospital, we have been recognized for delivering the very best patient care and achieving the best outcomes. Magnet status, awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, recognizes nursing excellence and the important role our nurses play in our commitment to excellent care and service. Fewer than 8% of all U.S. hospitals have attained Magnet designation.

The University of Kansas Hospital was originally designated as a Magnet® facility in 2006 and was the first hospital in Kansas to attain the designation. This recognition underscores the outstanding level of nursing quality and patient care. Designated hospitals demonstrate higher quality care, significantly higher levels of patient satisfaction and consumer confidence, as well as greater success in recruiting and retaining the best nurses.
