Frequently Asked Questions

The University of Kansas Health System FAQ

  • General visiting hours are 11:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. For more information, please see our Hospital Visitor Guidelines.

  • You can get driving directions and a map to the main hospital campus. To get driving directions from our automated phone recording, call 913-588-5555.

    For driving directions to any of our other offices, please see our directions and locations page.

  • Three garages offer patient and visitor parking. Bring your parking ticket inside with you for validation. The fee is $3 with validation.

    • Parking Garage 2 (P2) is on the corner of Olathe Boulevard and Cambridge Street.
    • Parking Garage 3 (P3) is across from the hospital’s main entrance.
    • Parking Garage 5 (P5) is on the corner of Cambridge Street and W. 36th Street.

    Valet parking for our patients is available at the hospital’s main entrance. Space is limited. Hours are 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. There is a $3 fee. Reclaim your vehicle at the valet desk in the hospital lobby.

  • If you are an outpatient or have been discharged from the hospital, you can fill your prescriptions at our outpatient pharmacy. It's located just off the hospital’s main lobby, next to the information desk and the escalator. You also can fill your prescriptions at any outside pharmacy.

  • Smoking or use of tobacco products is not permitted anywhere at The University of Kansas Health System or on the University of Kansas Medical Center campus, inside or outside. For more information, see Hospital Visitor Guidelines.

  • Family members and visitors are welcome to eat in the cafeteria, located near the main elevator bank on the ground floor of the hospital.

    • 6:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday
    • 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m. weekends and holidays

    The Roasterie Café offers three locations and features coffee, tea, baked goods and grab-and-go items. Menu options may vary by location.

    • Center for Advanced Heart Care: 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday.
    • Medical Office Building: 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday
    • Cambridge Tower A: 6 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. weekends

    D&G Café is located on Level 1 of Cambridge Tower A and features a pizza oven, smoothies and made-to-order meals.

    You'll also find a wide variety of restaurants near the health system's main campus. For more information, see Dining under Hospital Amenities.

  • An automated teller machine (ATM) is located near the cafeteria on the ground floor of the hospital.

  • You can send a patient flowers and Mylar® balloon bouquets* using commercial florists. Cards and letters can be mailed to this address:

    You can also send patients a free e-card with a personalized message.

    *The hospital permits only Mylar® balloons because of latex allergies.

  • When you call and ask for a patient by name, we can tell you if the patient is here, the patient's location and his or her general condition.

    Please understand that patients can request that we withhold information from callers. Other special circumstances may prevent us from providing patient information. Please see Patient Privacy.

  • No, we do not have an online phone directory. To reach a physician or staff member at The University of Kansas Health System, send a message to your care team in MyChart or call 913-588-5000.

  • Certified sign language interpreters are available for hearing-impaired patients. Closed captioning is also provided on televisions in patient rooms. For more information, call Interpreter Services at 913-588-7811.

  • Patient Relations will assist you in all matters related to your satisfaction as a patient or a family member or a friend of a patient. This includes filing a complaint (grievance) regarding unresolved issues or helping you contact state licensing or other accrediting organizations. To contact Patient Relations, call 913-588-1290.

  • Our Emergency Department is open 24/7. If you have a medical emergency, whether life-threatening or not, call 911 immediately.

    We offer after-hours urgent care at several locations. If you have questions about an appointment, your bill or other questions, please call 913-588-5000.

  • To find a physician who best suits your needs, please call our health resource and physician referral line at 913-588-1227, or toll-free 844-323-1227. You can also search doctors by name, specialty, condition or treatment in Find a Doctor on our website.

  • We're happy to provide you with a copy of your medical record for follow-up care, insurance purposes or your own use. See Medical Records.

  • If you’re a health system patient with a MyChart account, you can use our self-service, online price estimate tool in MyChart. Log in to MyChart. Go to Billing and choose Estimates.

    If you are new to the health system or don’t have a MyChart account, you can explore the estimate tool as a MyChart guest user.

  • If you have questions, want an explanation of your charges or need help with your hospital bill after you are discharged, call the patient financial services customer service center at 913-588-5820.
